Excursiones

This week we went on two excursions together with two of our clases from school.

On Thursday we visited the museum of the famous writer B. Pérez Galdós (our school is named after him), but I didn't take any photos on this day, because to be honest it was actually pretty boring. All you could see were some books, notes and the roomes where B. Pérez Galdós lived in, so I will just move on by telling you about our second excursion, though there is actually not much to tell about either. 

Esta semana fuimos a dos excursiones con dos de nuestras clases. El jueves visitamos la casa-museo del famoso escritor B. Pérez Galdós ( nuestro instituto lleva el nombre en su honor). Ese día no saqué fotos, porque para ser honesta, la visita me resultó bastante aburrida. Todo lo que se podía ver eran libros, documentos y las habitaciones de la casa dónde vivió, así que pasaré a contar mi segunda visita, aunque tampoco hay mucho que decir.

On Friday we went together with some type of 'Guide' to look for old Fossils in Las Palmas. We searched on two different places and even found a few Fossils to which the 'Guide' told us a few interesting things about. 

El viernes fuimos con una especie de guía a buscar antiguos fósiles en Las Palmas. Buscamos en dos lugares diferentes, e incluso llegamos a encontrar algunos, de los que la guía nos contó algunos datos interesantes.

       

                                             

       

                                   

El campamento

On saturday together with my brother and his 'camping group' I participated in a Camp in a forest high up the mountains. I think the group I was in consisted of more or less than 20 persons which I didn't know before and I have to admit, that At first I was a little afraid but also very excited, because I didn't know any of them, but luckily that changed really quickly. Everybody was really nice and open, so I didn't need much time to integrate myself and find new friends. 

El sábado fui a un campamento en un bosque de los montañas con mi hermano y su grupo del campamento. Creo que  en total fuimos un grupo de más o menos 20 personas que no conocía, pero eso cambió muy rápido. Al principio estaba algo asustada, pero también emocionada.Todos fueron muy amables y abiertos así que fue muy sencillo integrarme y encontrar nuevos amigos.

Since the Camp found place high up the mountains, we had to climb for 2-3 hours, which by the way, was pretty exhausting, but at the end I would say that all the efforts got paid off, when we arrived. 

Como el campamento era en la parte alta de la isla, tuvimos que caminar por la montaña entre 2-3 horas. Fue algo duro, pero valió la pena cuándo llegamos. 

During the day and most of the night we played a lot of funny games to improve our confidence and help us to get to know each other a little better.  

Durante el día y la noche jugamos a muchos juegos divertidos para mejorar la confianza y para lograr conocernos mejor. 

Our night we spent together with another 'camping group' that was a little younger than us, in a little hut. 

Por la noche dormimos en un refugio junto a otra parte del grupo de gente algo más pequeña.

On Sunday we climbed up the highest mountain of Grand Canary and unfortunately you won't see the amazing view I had, because stupid little me forgot her camera in her rucksack (of course!), so I can't show you any pictures. I'm sorry!

El domingo caminamos por la montaña más alta que se llama Roque Nublo pero por desgracia se me había olvidado la cámara en la mochila (claro), así que no puedo mostrar ninguna foto. Lo siento.

BUT at least I had a great weekend. ❤️ 

PERO al menos pasé un gran fin de semana. ❤️

The first school week

On Monday we started our first 'real' week at school. We now are separated in different classes and have our own timetables with the same subjects as we have in Germany, though with one little exception: we now get teached in Italian.

El lunes nosotros empezamos con nuestra primera semana en el colegio. Ahora estamos separados en clases diferentes y tenemos nuestros propios horarios con las mismas asignaturas que en Alemania, pero con una excepción: nos dan clase de italiano.

All I can say for now is that my first school days went actually pretty great so far. Literally everybody is SO nice, caring and open in front of us, which makes it so much easier to integrate ourselves at the new school.

Todo lo que puedo decir hasta el momento es que mis primeros días han sido estupendos. Toda la gente se comporta de forma muy amable, nos cuidan y se muestran muy abiertos, lo que hace la integración muy fácil.  

What I can already say about our first lessons is that compared to our school back in Germany everything is totally different. On Grand Canary the relation between teacher and pupil and the whole atmosphere is SO much more relaxed and less serious. Our teachers seem more like some kind of 'friends' than actual 'teachers' so every lesson is way more fun and makes you feel less stressed. 

I'm even looking forward to go to school, which to be honest in my ears sounds like crazy!

Lo que ya puedo decir acerca de nuestros primeros días, es que todo es bastante differente, comparado con nuestro colegio en Alemania. En Gran Canaria la relación entre los profesores y los alumnos y el ambiente es mucho más relajado y menos serio. Los profesores parecen más como 'amigos' que  profesores reales, por lo que las clases son más divertidas y uno se siente más relajado. Hasta me apetece ir a clase, cosa rara en mi!

Holidays / Vacaciones

I think I might have forgotten to mention, that we also had one week of holidays  which I spent mostly together with my host familiy. 

On sunday we ended this week together by having churros for breakfast and spending most of our time relaxing in the beautiful sun at the club. 

Creo que se me ha olvidado mencionar que también tuvimos una semana de vacaciones que pase casi en su totalidad con mi familia. 

El domingo hemos terminado la semana tomando churros en el desayuno y disfutando de un día relajante al sol en el club. 

     

   

Carnival in Las Palmas

Tons of people dancing like crazy in the most different variants of costumes in the middle of the street of Las Palmas can only mean one thing;

CARNIVAL!

Toneladas de personas bailando en los más variopintos disfraces en medio de las calles de Las Palmas, sólo puede significar una cosa;

CARNAVAL!

After already 'celebrating' one of the most important festivals of Gran Canaria at school, together with my host family and some of their friends I went to watch the huge Carnival-Parade in Las Palmas.

Tras celebrar uno de los festivales más importantes en el instituto, también fui a ver junto a mi familia y sus amigos la enorme cabalgata de Carnaval.

 

Also on Thursday there was another festival called 'Indianos' where people come together in white clothing and throw at each other with white powder. I went there with some of my spanish friends and had a lot of fun!

También hubo otra fiesta, llamada "Los Indianos", dónde la gente vestida de blanco se reúne y se tiran polvos talcos unos a otros. Fui con algunos amigos españoles del instituto.

The first days on Grand Canary are over... / Ya los primeros días enGran Canaria han pasado

...and I have to say that I had a pretty great but also tiring week so far.

...y hay de decir que he tenido una gran pero agotadora semana. 

Together with many students of different countrys like Italy, Poland, Turkey, Romania, UK and Germany that are here because of a project called 'Comenius' we had an amazing week that consisted of many exciting activities.

Junto a muchos alumnos de diferentes países como Italia, Polonia, Turquía, Rumanía, Reino Unido y Alemania que están aquí debido al poyecto "Comenius", hemos pasado una semana estupenda en la que hemos disfrutado de grandes actividades.

On Monday we had a day trip to Tejeda where we went Hiking to Roque Nublo. The view there was breathtaking so everbody enjoyed the beautiful nature and the sun.

El lunes tuvimos una excursión a Tejeda, desde dónde fuimos caminando hasta El Roque Nublo. Las vistas desde allí eran espectectaculares, así que todo el mundo disfrutó de la naturaleza y del Sol.

On tuesday we spent the whole day playing many different funny games at the beach to get to know each other better. (Which everybody really enjoyed).

El martes estuvimos todo el día jugando a juegos mut graciosos en la playa para conocernos todos mejor.

As you can see in the following photos, on Wednesday we went sightseeing in Las Palmas. 

By the way, I took many of those photos with my phone camera, so I'm sorry for the bad quality!

Como pueden ver en las siguientes fotos, el miércoles nos fuimos a visitar Las Palmas. Por cierto, saqué muchas de las fotos con mi cámara del móvil, así que siento la mala calidad!

Thursday, which was one of the best days, was Beachday!

At first we went to the south of the island, to Maspalomas, where we visited the beautiful Dunen. 

El jueves, uno de los mejores días, lo pasamos en la playa.

Al principio fuimos al sur de la isla, a Maspalomas, en dónde visitamos las preciosas dunas.

After that we went to Puerto Rico, where our teachers already had some really cool water activities like kayaking and stand-up-paddeling planned. 

Después de eso fuimos a Puerto Rico, dónde nuestros profesores disfrutaron de actividades acuáticas como kayacs y paddle surf.

On Friday, the last day, there was a Carnaval workshop for all exchange students organized at our school, which I really enjoyed.

El viernes, el último día, hubo talleres de carnaval para todos los alumnos de intercambio organizado en el instituto, que me encantaron.

Everybody had to create their own costumes, learn a tipical spanish dance and paint each others faces. 

Todos tenían que crear sus propios disfraces, aprender un típico baile español y maquillarnos las caras entre todos.

On that day literally EVERYBODY was in a really good mood and had lots of fun!

Ese día todo el mundo estaba de muy buen humor y nos divertimos mucho.

When our Workshop ended, there was a Carnival Gala for the whole school, where students presented tipical carnival dances and short scetches. 

Cuando nuestros talleres acabaron, hubo una Gala de Carnaval para todo el instituto, en dónde los alumnos presentaron sus bailes y sus sketches.

After that we went to the north of the island, where we ended our amazing week altogether by relaxing in the warm sun. 

Después de eso nos marchamos al norte de la isla, dónde acabamos nuestra fantástica semana relajándonos bajo el Sol.

Well, to sum everything up; I had an amazing week with lots of great people. ❤️

Bueno para finalizar tengo que decir que he tenido una semana genial con mucha gente estupenda. ❤️

My trip to Grand Canary / Mi viaje a Gran Canaria

After 3 months of anticipation I finally made it to Grand Canary and I still can't believe I'm already here. The time just went by so quickly!

Después tres meses de anticipación finalmente estoy en Gran Canaria y todavía no puedo creer que ya estoy aquí. 

If somebody would ask me how my trip was, I probably would answer something like ,,pretty well", BUT since I'm not a liar and I want to be honest with you, I would instead answer more something like ,,horrible.". 

Si alguien me preguntara qué tal mi viaje, probablemente yo contestaría algo cómo ,,bien", PERO como no soy una mentirosa, diría ,,terrible". 

Together with my parents, my sister, my exchange partner who has already been here since three weeks and two of my closest friends, I made my way to the airport of Hamburg, where I was supposed to get off. BUT because of a big accident, we were stuck into traffic for five (!!) whole hours!

Junto a mis padres, mi hermana, mi compañero del intercambio que ya esta aquí desde hace tres semanas y dos amigos hice el trayecto al aerpuerto de Hamburgo. PERO a causa de un accidente se produjo una congestión muy grande y tardamos cinco horas. 

I think it's save to say that you can all imagine that I wasn't in a reeeaally good mood, since I was afraid I might miss my flight...

And GUESS WHAT?!

I missed it.

Of course. 

No creo que tenga que contaros que no estaba de buen humor, porque tenía miedo de perder el vuelo...

Pues bien, lo perdí.

Claro.

Luckily we somehow managed to book another flight to the island, that got off seven hours later, so I didn't miss any activities.

Because of the lack of sleep I didn't feel very good the whole flight, but when I caught sight of the first sun rays, I instantly felt way better and all my sorrows were blown away. 

Por suerte, pudimos reservar otro vuelo a la isla, que partía siete horas después, así que no perdí ninguna actividad.

Debido a la falta de sueño no me encontré muy bien durante el viaje, pero desde que pude ver los primeros rayos del Sol, me encontré mucho mejor y se me acabaron todas las penas.

Finally landing in Grand Canary I felt even better, when I met my lovely hostfamily.

Finalmente, al aterrizar en Gran Canaria me encontré aún mejor, cuando conocí a mi nueva familia de acogida. 

When life puts you in a tough situation, don't say 'why me?'. Just say 'try me'.
